• Liverpool Challenge Chelsea in Race for Kalidou Koulibaly With a Huge Bid for the Senegal Star

    News Tue 20 Jun 2017

Liverpool have tabled a lucrative bid for long-time Chelsea target Kalidou Koulibaly, according to a report by The Sport Review.

Jurgen Klopp has been consistently linked with a move for Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk, but following allegations of ‘tapping up’ the Merseyside club were legally obliged to cool their interest in the Dutchman.

However, it appears that with a deal for Van Dijk looking increasingly unlikely Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly is Klopp’s plan B.

The 26-year-old was ever-present for the Serie A side last season making 38 appearances as Napoli finished just one point behind runners-up Roma.

Napoli are desperate to build on last season’s successes and will see securing their talented centre-back’s future as key to closing the gap with the dominance of Juventus.

Though Chelsea have been repeatedly linked with the Senegal international and are known to be keen admirers, Liverpool now look set to spoil the party.

According to reports Jurgen Klopp has had a £36.7m bid rejected by Napoli, but may consider another approach.

However, Liverpool may struggle to contend with Chelsea’s resources, with reports suggesting that Antonio Conte has tabled a £52.5 bid for the defender in his search to find a capable replacement for departing club legend John Terry.
