Chelsea could be about to make a shock move for relegated Middlesbrough winger Adama Traore this summer.
It is being reported by SPORT that Boro are after selling three of their players in order to raise cash to bring in suitable depth for their Championship season, and Traore is on that list.
The Spaniard arrived on Teeside last summer after an underwhelming spell at Aston Villa, but only showed flashes of potential at the Riverside, which makes the links to Chelsea a little surprising.
Traore was touted as a future star during his Barca days, and perhaps the Blues can still see that potential despite his past couple of seasons.
Chelsea return to the Champions League next season having finished top of the pile in the Premier League, and therefore will have more games to play than last season.
There are also the domestic cup competitions, of course, meaning the Blues will have to call on the depths of their squad in order to keep everybody fit and energised.
It is not clear how much it would cost Chelsea to bring Traore to Stamford Bridge, but one has to feel that the fact Boro were relegated and need to raise cash places the ball in the Blues’ court, and a cut-price deal could happen.
New boss Garry Monk will also attempt to sell Marten de Roon and Gaston Ramirez in order to free up cash to reinvest into more suitable players on the market.
