• Man Utd in Talks With Lyon Striker Alexandre Lacazette as Plan B to Morata Transfer

    News Mon 19 Jun 2017

Manchester United are in talks to sign Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette, as a potential alternative to number one target Alvaro Morata.

L’Equipe have reported (via the Sun) that United have now joined the ever-increasing list of suitors for the prolific forward along with: Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.

Despite not being able to Champions League football, Arsenal are many people’s favourites to secure Lacazette’s signature with the Ligue 1 side demanding a fee close to £50m.

United are reportedly close to agreeing a deal with Real Madrid striker Morata, after Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s contract was not renewed, but have also been in touch with Lacazette’s representatives over a potential move to Old Trafford in case negotiations with Morata stall.

The 26-year-old is believed to be considering an offer from Atletico Madrid. However, he would not be able to play for the club for six months due to their existing transfer ban. This scenario may deter Lacazette, who wants regular football to ensure he makes France’s World Cup squad next summer.

Lyon’s president has previously confirmed that Arsenal have made a “very nice” offer for Lacazette, expected to be around the £30m mark.

Chelsea, meanwhile, could make a similar approach to United. While Everton’s Romelu Lukaku remains Antonio Conte’s prime target this summer, the Blues have reportedly made an enquiry over Lacazette’s availability and would hope to queue jump the likes of Arsenal by being able to offer the striker Champions League.

Lacazette scored 36 goals in all competitions for Lyon last season, and his total of 28 league goals was only bettered by Edinson Cavani.
