• Antonio Conte's Rift With Chelsea Caused by Being Told He Must Sell Stars to Support Summer Spending

    News Sun 18 Jun 2017

The reasoning for Chelsea boss Antonio Conte falling out with the Blues hierarchy is reportedly due to the Italian being told his summer transfer spending would have to be generated by first selling some of his stars who helped secure the Blues sixth league title.

This ultimately led to the infamous text to star striker Diego Costa who was told he was no longer part of his manager’s plans moving forward, infuriating both the player and the club’s board.

As reported by the Mirror, Conte has been offloading his frustrations to his friends in Italy of having to self-finance the club’s transfer spending by off-loading a number of top players.

After an impressive first season in the Premier League, the 47-year-old had hoped to build on his team’s success by making quick moves in the transfer market at the season’s end, however the club’s plans could be disrupted if the rumblings continue, with reports suggesting Conte could go as far as quitting the club.

It could be considered a rash decision if Conte was to walk away, but if Roman Abramovich remains firm on his stance that outgoings must occur to fund incoming players then the Italian may choose the same route which led to his departure at Juventus.

With targets such as Everton striker Romelu Lukaku, Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng, Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, and Juventus left back Alex Sandro likely to set the club back by £200m, Abramovich wants a tighter spending spree which is likely to delay Chelsea’s summer plans

With their rivals already sanctioning a number of deals, Chelsea will be hoping to resolve the issue with their star manager sooner rather than later if they are to successfully defend their league title and make a serious challenge in next season’s Champions League.
