• Chelsea Make Bid of Over £50m for Napoli Star Defender as Replacement for Leaving Legend John Terry

    News Fri 16 Jun 2017

Chelsea have reportedly made a £52.5m bid for Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly, as they look to replace exiting legend John Terry.

The successful return of David Luiz last year had helped to fill the void left by Terry’s absence but with an ageing Gary Cahill boss Antonio Conte is looking for further solidarity at the back.

While he has the options of youngsters Kurt Zouma, Nathan Ake and Andreas Christensen, the Blues manager is reportedly looking for a proven centre-back and with a £40m bid rejected after Conte was appointed TuttoMercatoWeb claim the Premier League champions have now increased their offer.

However Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is determined to keep his best players as the club continue to build a squad capable of knocking Juventus off the top spot, with reports stating that the offer has been rejected.

After losing Gonzalo Higuain to their rivals the club was given a boost after Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne signed new deals and the Serie A side have the confidence that with a few key signings they can push for the title.

While Terry only made 14 appearances this season, in all competitions, his experience in winning 17 titles with Chelsea will leave a considerable gap both on the pitch and on the training ground where he has been highly influential.

Koulibaly is not short on experience either making 38 appearances, in all competitions, last season and with two titles under his belt he has plenty of potential to grow into one of the world’s best defenders.
