• Diego Costa's Brother Claims Blues Striker Has 'Lots of Offers' But Favours European Stay

    News Wed 14 Jun 2017

Diego Costa has been the subject of countless transfer rumours in recent months. At one point it looked set for the Chelsea star to jet off to the Chinese Super League, however, a number of big European clubs are now said to be interested in the forward.

Diego’s brother, Jair, has said that the Spaniard has “lots of offers” to leave Stamford Bridge this summer – AC Milan and Arsenal are just two clubs that have been linked with the Chelsea striker, but Costa apparently has his heart set on a return to Atlético Madrid if ESPN reports are to be believed.

“He has great affection for Atlético but right now, there is nothing [concrete],” Jair said. “We have to wait and see what happens.”

There has been talk of Costa going on loan until January when he can then make a permanent move back to Atlético after their transfer ban expires. Costa has been strongly linked with a short-term loan to Brazilian side Palmeiras before a transfer to the Spanish capital.

“To be honest, right now that is very difficult,” Jair claimed. “Many friends have called me up in the last few hours to ask me about that [report] but Diego has not said anything about this.

“He is a Palmeirense [fan] even though me and my father support Sao Paulo.”

Costa had a training ground row with Chelsea manager Antonio Conte in January and was subsequently deemed surplus to requirements by the Italian coach. After being informed by Conte that he was not part of the Chelsea plan for next season, Costa is looking for a move within Europe ahead of an important season for international footballers.

“That is very difficult [a move to China] because next year is the World Cup and Diego wants to be there,” Costa’s brother said.
