Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has lifted the lid on just what made his title winning season in his very first season in the Premier League so special, commenting on the unique competitiveness and world class atmosphere he has experienced in England.
Conte inspired Chelsea to overcome a dismal 10th place finish prior to his arrival by quickly adapting to the demands of his new surroundings after spending his whole football life in Italy.
“It means a lot for me and my family because this season wasn’t easy. When you arrive in a new country with new habits, new culture, new language, it is not easy,” he told the Premier League in the wake of what was a record breaking season (number of wins – 30).
“I found a fantastic atmosphere. I found a great league with great players, great teams, great coaches, and, I repeat, a great atmosphere, the best in the world,” he added.
“I must be very proud of my first season. For me, this league is the hardest in the world, and to arrive and win in you first season is incredible.
“I think it is special because every game is unpredictable and you must fight a lot in every game. Easy games don’t exist and you must be prepared to fight.”
