• Chelsea and Arsenal Among Clubs Ready to Do Battle Over £50m-Rated Leicester City Star

    News Fri 9 Jun 2017

Chelsea and Arsenal are set to battle over Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez and the massive £50m asking price that the Foxes have slapped on the winger’s forehead.

Mahrez caught the attention of the top clubs during Leicester’s remarkable title winning season last year and, while he granted Claudio Raneiri’s wish of staying for one more season, he has shown a desire to leave the club when the transfer window opens.

Chelsea and Arsenal have been keeping tabs on the Algerian international’s status throughout the season and the Daily Star report that the London duo are prepared to lock horns as they both attempt to land his signature.

The Blues are looking for potential replacements for Eden Hazard who has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid, as well as looking to expand their attacking options to compete more in Europe.

Arsenal are also under threat of losing key attacking players, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil both entering the final year of their contracts and neither of them currently committing their futures to the club. The Gunners will also be keen to return to the Champions League with boss Arsene Wenger stating that he is only focusing on top players.

Mahrez had a disappointing sophomore season in the Premier League, scoring just six goals with four assists in 36 league appearances, but his title winning campaign showcased his ability.

The newly crowned English champions have edged forward in the race after the forward described them as an ‘incredible club’, and with the Blues having Champions League action to offer, the Gunners may fall short of the Leicester man’s expectations.
