• Bayern Contact Lyon Over Midfielder Corentin Tolisso With 2 Premier League Sides Also Interested

    News Tue 6 Jun 2017

Bayern Munich have contacted Lyon regarding a possible move for midfielder Corentin Tolisso.

The France international impressed last season, scoring eight goals and adding five assists in 31 Ligue 1 appearances, and has been linked with a move away from Lyon as a result of his good form.

Bayern, who already have midfielders like Arturo Vidal, Thiago Alcantara and Renato Sanches on their books, are on the lookout for a player to replace the outgoing Xabi Alonso, who retired from all football following the Bundesliga champions’ 4-1 win over Freiburg.

According to Margo Dumont, a beIN Sports reporter, Bayern have made contact with Lyon over a possible transfer for the 22-year-old, who can also play right-back, while two Premier League clubs are also said to be interested in acquiring Tolisso’s services.

Chelsea have been linked with a move for Tolisso, as have their rivals Arsenal, but the report does not state which clubs have made their interests in the midfielder known.

L’Equipe claim Chelsea have a firm interest in signing Tolisso, especially after recent negotiations with Monaco regarding midfield star Tiemoue Bakayoko led to frustration as the two national champions were unable to agree terms.

While Tolisso would have to battle Nemanja Matic, N’Golo Kante and Cesc Fabregas for a starting position at Chelsea, he would arguably command more playing time at Arsenal, who are believed to be in the market for another central midfielder this summer.

While players like Granit Xhaka, Francis Coquelin, Aaron Ramsey and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain can all play centrally, manager Arsene Wenger is on the lookout for players who can help the Gunners make a Premier League title bid next season.
