Paris Saint-Germain’s goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, has admitted he is unhappy at potentially becoming third choice keeper at the Parc des Princes next season.
The report by Daily Express also suggests that this could pave the way for a move to the Premier League champions, Chelsea, this summer.
Chelsea are in the market for a new goalkeeper after selling last season’s number two, Asmir Begovic, to Bournemouth for £10million pounds last week.
24-year-old Areola, is under contract until 2019 and started last season as PSG’s number one keeper. However towards the end of the campaign he found himself regularly on the bench in favour of Kevin Trapp.
As a result, Areola only made 15 appearances out of a possible 38 this season in France’s Ligue 1. Despite Areola’s lack of game time, Antonio Conte has been linked with a move for the shot-stopper in recent weeks, in order to provide healthy competition for Thibaut Courtois next season.
Areola also believes PSG have plans to bring in another goalkeeper in the summer, such that he now feels his future at the club is uncertain:
Pathetic. Alphonse Areola told Telefoot PSG have informed him they want a new GK. AA will not accept being 3rd choice. PSG will regret this.

“It is important to have playing time… I was told at the end of the season that the club is looking for a goalkeeper,” said Areola on Telefoot.
“For me, it is impossible to become the third choice at PSG.”
However with the recent arrival of new Sporting Director, Antero Henrique at PSG, transfer proceedings could be delayed until he has talks with Unai Emery about what is needed for next season.
“My future is very fluid for the moment. With the arrival of the new Sporting Director, the discussions are blocked,” suggested Areola. ”I need to have a better season next then the last.”
PSG will undoubtedly look to be spending heavily again this summer in order to build a squad good enough to regain their Ligue 1 title, taken from them by Monaco last season.
This means Areola looks likely to fall down the pecking order this summer, opening the door for Chelsea to swoop in and take the Frenchman to Stamford Bridge.
