Chelsea winger Eden Hazard is set to undergo surgery on the broken ankle he suffered over the weekend while training with the Belgium national team.
Hazard twisted his right ankle during Sunday’s session and a scan later revealed the player to have sustained a fracture as a result. Now, in a further update, 26-year-old will go under the knife in a bid to fix the problem.
It is expected that Hazard’s recovery will last two or even three months by some estimates.
Seemingly even the best case scenario would have the Chelsea Player of the Year missing the start of next season. A two month recovery would see him available to train again in early August, having missed a whole pre-season and an almost inevitably delayed start to 2017/18.
A three month absence and it could be late September before he is ready to get back on the pitch after returning to training at the start of the month and catching up his fitness.
