Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are becoming increasingly confident that they will sign Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez this summer – despite being only one of many clubs interested in the forward.
The Chilean international is heavily rumoured to be leaving the Emirates Stadium this summer after becoming frustrated with life at Arsenal, and his performances this season have caught the eyes of top Premier League teams such as Manchester City and Chelsea, as well as Bayern.
However, according to the Mirror, the German outfit believe that they are in pole position to sign Sanchez due to Arsenal’s desperation to not sell him to a Premier League rival.
It is important to remember that Arsene Wenger is keen to keep hold of his star man – despite his contract now running into its final year.
The Gunners have reportedly offered him a new deal worth £275,000, but it is yet to be accepted by Sanchez.
The club run the risk of losing the player on a free transfer next summer if they do not sell him in the next few months, and the Arsenal board are going to have to insist that he either signs a new contract or leaves north London in this window.
Sanchez was Arsenal’s shining star for much of this season. In a campaign that severely fell short of expectations, the Chilean was often the one that many turned to in order to salvage points.
And that he did. Sanchez scored 24 goals in 40 appearances this season after being switched to a centre forward role early on in the term.
