Dominic Solanke’s move to Liverpool may have surprised a few, but the Twitter history books suggest that he’s had a connection to Anfield for some time.
The teenager will seal a £3m move to the Reds in the coming weeks, as Chelsea receive compensation for the player whose contract is up in June.
The striker failed to break into the first-team at Stamford Bridge, and like many academy players at the club, has been farmed out on-loan to a number of different teams during his time.
Despite being with the Blues for several years, some have pointed to an old tweet from Solanke that appears to show that his new club have always had a place in his heart.
The tweet in question was published some five years ago, during Liverpool’s disappointing 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in September 2012.
Anfield is one Amazing Stadium, the fans are quality!
— Dom Solanke (@DomSolanke) 23 September 2012
With Anfield at fever pitch, Solanke took to Twitter to express his love for the ground and supporters inside.
He wrote: “Anfield is one Amazing Stadium, the fans are quality!”
Having now all-but completed his move to Merseyside, Solanke may soon get the chance to experience Anfield’s ‘amazing’ atmosphere first-hand, as he looks to finally make his name in the Premier League and break into Jurgen Klopp’s first-team next season.
