• Chelsea Led to Believe Celtic May Negotiate for Dembele as Blues Consider Range of Options

    News Tue 31 Jan 2017

Chelsea are reportedly looking at a wide range of potential deals on transfer deadline day, with Inter winger Jonathan Biabiany, Torino striker Andrea Belotti, Celtic hotshot Moussa Dembele and Schalke left-back Sead Kolasinac all linked with Stamford Bridge moves.

The day kicked off with rumours of serious loan interest in Biabiany, but it seems an approach for the French speedster is already dead in the water.

According to Italian outlet, Biabiany was flattered by the interest but declined the invitation to be a short-term solution. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has also claimed that the 28-year-old is awaiting an offer from the Chinese Super League instead.

Meanwhile, Sky Italia has reported that Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo is currently in Italy to push through a late deal for Torino striker Andrea Belotti – a rumoured target for Arsenal until Arsene Wenger described recent speculation about the Gunners as ‘fake news’.

Bellotti has scored 14 times in 19 appearances for Torino in Serie A this season in what has been a breakout campaign. Understandably, there are serious doubts about the likelihood of such a deal, though, as the 23-year-old carries an extortionate price tag – up to his €100m release clause.

But, while Belotti could be empty speculation, the rumours regarding Dembele are much more substantial. The news at the start of the day suggested that Celtic would accept nothing less than £40m, most probably in an attempt to scare Chelsea off.

Squawka claims the bidding is expected to get underway at £25m, though. It is suggested that Chelsea have been given reason to believe Celtic might actually consider an offer in the region of £30m for the young French striker, scorer of 20 goals so far this season.

Dembele has allegedly been spotted on a flight to London, but Get French Football has it that he’s only heading south for an existing appointment for a knee scan. He is therefore not currently expected to meet with Chelsea officials. Things could always change.

As for Bosnian international defender Kolasinac, Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel has told Bild that an offer from Stamford Bridge was ‘immediately’ rejected as soon as it was made.
