Chelsea and Manchester United have been dealt a blow to their hopes of pulling off a January transfer for Monaco star Tiemoue Bakayoko, as he has revealed he will not leave the club this winter.
Speaking to Eurosport, the in demand midfielder stated that he does not want to depart the French league as it stands, as he’s looking to seal a title win with Monaco, who are second-placed in Ligue 1 at the moment.
Bakayoko has been in impressive form for the club so far this season and has attracted interest from a number of top European clubs.
United and the Premier League leaders are believed to be the two main teams in the running, with Blues boss Antonio Conte recently carrying out a scouting mission on the 22-year-old Frenchman.
The player did admit that a Premier League move is a possibility in the future, though he’s not looking to make the move just yet: ”I won’t leave Monaco this winter, that’s a certainty. I don’t want to leave.
“The idea of an exit crossed my mind at the start of the season but I didn’t know what the club wanted to do with me. Maybe I wasn’t putting in the necessary effort.
“What triggered everything was the confidence of the coach. That changes everything. I needed to feel important in the team and take matters into my own hands.
“Friends told me [about the interest] but I don’t pay it any attention. I’ve had a good first six months but the season is not over.
“Certainly the Premier League makes you dream but I have no reason to leave this winter. Today, I have two goals: to finish as a champion in France and to go as far as possible in the Champions League.”
Chelsea have also been linked with moves for the likes of Roma’s Radja Nainggolan and Bayern Munich’s Arturo Vidal.
