Jose Mourinho thinks Chelsea’s defensive philosophy means it is unlikely that Manchester United will be able to catch them at the top of the Premier League.
Chelsea have won their last 11 matches on the bounce and find themselves six points clear of second-placed Liverpool and 13 points ahead of Mourinho’s United.
The Portuguese coach finds it hard to see any team catching the Blues as in his words “they score one goal and they win”.
Chelsea have indeed won their last three matches by a 1-0 scoreline but they definitely aren’t as defensive minded as Mourinho may believe.
In fact, over the last 11 Premier League matches Antonio Conte’s men have scored 25 goals compared to United’s 12 in the same period.
When asked if United can still win the title, Mourinho replied: “You have to be honest and say that is very difficult.”
“It’s not just the difference in points, it’s also the Chelsea philosophy of playing.
“They score one goal and they win. They defend a lot. They defend well. They are winning and, in the last 20 minutes, they bring defenders in.
“They don’t care what people say, what people think. They just want to win. And, because of that, I don’t see them losing many points.”
