Chelsea legend Frank Lampard played with some pretty outstanding players during his playing career, especially during his stint at the Blues.
And when he was asked to pick a 5-a-side team containing players he has played with whilst at Stamford Bridge, he was given a pretty rough ride, simply because he has played with more than five world class talents in football.
But, somehow, the former England international has devised a team that would scare any amateur kick-about side on the 5-a-side circuit, and it includes himself.
First up, in between the sticks, Lamps has gone for a man he has a lot to thank for, including that penalty save in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich in 2012 – Petr Cech. On his former teammates, Lampard said: “Petr Cech is in goal. He was incredible and we wouldn’t have won the Champions League without him.”
At the back, and who else would you pick if you were in Frank’s shoes?
The goalscoring machine has gone with Captain fantastic John Terry, while up top it’s a true icon of Stamford Bridge, Didier Drogba: “If anyone asks me to name the best players I played with, I’ll say John Terry and Didier Drogba without a doubt, so they are both in.”
In the middle, the 38-year-old has gone for himself, rather modestly but who can blame him, and the one and only Eden Hazard: “If I put myself in there it’s the spine of the team from 2004/05 and beyond, plus I’ll throw in Eden Hazard for the flair. He’s a fantastic player and I love watching him.”
Hilariously, when asked who would skipper this awesome side, Frank said, with tongue in cheek: “Well, who’s Chelsea’s top scorer of all time?”
