Alan Curbishley on Nathan Ake
Blues boss Antonio Conte is enjoying success with a three-at-the-back formation but has just fit-again Kurt Zouma and crocked captain John Terry in reserve.
Ake could return to provide added strength in depth but former West Ham boss Curbishley believes the starlet will not want to play a back-up role.
When asked if Ake could replace Gary Cahill or Nathan Ake in the starting XI, Curbishley said: “I think he can play both positions.
“I think the problem they’ve got at Chelsea is that they obviously want the players to go out and gain some experience and if they want him back and don’t play him then they’re going to have an unhappy player on their hands.
“He is owned by Chelsea and I think that the position they find themselves in, it wouldn’t surprise me if they recall him because Conte could say him, ‘Look you can play in two positions’.
