Gareth Barry has moved into outright second place on the all-time Premier League appearances.

The Everton midfielder came on in the second half of tonight’s Merseyside derby against Liverpool to make his 610th appearance in England’s top flight.

Barry, 35, has now bypassed Chelsea icon Frank Lampard who played 609 times for the Blues and Manchester City throughout his glittering career.

Former Aston Villa and City man Barry is now just 22 Premier League appearances behind Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs who holds the record on 632.

With 21 fixtures remaining in the 2016/17 season, Barry will have to go around again next season if he is to break the current record.

The disappointing 1-0 defeat was also Barry’s 750th club appearance of his career.
