Mauricio Pochettino says Tottenham can catch Chelsea at the top of the Premier League

Ashley Barnes fired Burnley in front at White Hart Lane.

But goals from Dele Alli and Danny Rose turned the tables as Spurs climbed to within a point of the top four.

Spurs are still a daunting ten points behind Antonio Conte’s runaway leaders but Pochettino insists they still have plenty of time to close the gap.

Asked whether Chelsea were already out of sight, the Tottenham boss said: “No, it’s true that we have ten points the gap with Chelsea but there is a lot of the season to play.

“I think the gap with Leicester was similar last season.”

Spurs were actually nine points behind the Foxes on Christmas Day last year and reduced it to two by Valentine’s Day before their challenge finally crumbled.

But Pochettino reckons the character they showed in fighting back from a goal down to beat a Burnley team who scrapped for every ball proves they can come back in this year’s race too.

He said: “It’s a team that is very aggressive and fights. I’m very pleased.

“We fight when we need to fight, we play when we need to play.

“Maybe our expectation was too high before. We felt disappointed to be out of the Champions League. But I think we have improved a lot since last season.

“Maybe that feeling is not fair. The team can he happy. Now a little but closer to second position.”

Burnley boss Sean Dyche launched a blistering rant at referee Kevin Friend after Moussa Sissoko escaped with a booking for a high tackle on Stephen Ward just before laying on the winner.

He said: “How they didn’t get a man sent off is impossible and he sets up the goal.

“It’s quite simply a sending off. You can’t go in blind like that, we’re told that a high foot is a sending off.

“I’ve looked at it again. I still can’t see how he’s still on the pitch, everyone was scratching their heads.

“I’d prefer not to talk about things but we didn’t get one at West Ham because our keeper doesn’t roll around. Neither does Wardy.

“I asked him, the ref. I told him I think he’ll be surprised when he sees it back.

“I think it’s our sixth game-changer. You certainly hope it evens out at the end of the season.

“Are we cute enough? There is a difference between gamesmanship and simulation. I don’t really want them to roll around on the floor to be honest. It’s not for me.”
