Chelsea winger Eden Hazard has been revealed as the Premier League’s most fouled player, just ahead of teammate Diego Costa, according to WhoScored.
The Belgian international has been on the receiving end of a foul 50 times so far this campaign, one of which resulted in injury against West Brom last weekend.
Hazard will now sit out Chelsea’s trip to Sunderland on Wednesday night, and has a race to get back to full fitness before Saturday’s clash with Crystal Palace.
It’s not particularly surprising that teams are targeting the former Lille forward, who has racked up eight Premier League goals so far this season.
In February last year, when Hazard also boasted the stat of the most fouled player in the league, he told the Independent that it didn’t concern him.
“I don’t see the point in reacting,’ he said.
“True, it’s a human response but it is the way I have been brought up. I have been used to taking the knocks. The more I take, the happier I am.
“It always makes me want to outdo them but in a football way and I don’t want to make their life a misery by kicking them. I want to hurt the opponent but in terms of the football.”
Almost two years later, it’s unlikely that those frustrations have subsided, especially now that he faces a spell on the sidelines.
