The Blues ace has impressed since his £30m return to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
The Brazil international is well-known for his attacking play, with defending taking a back seat.
But Luiz has been solid at the back to guide the Blues to the summit of the Premier League table.
“Defenders these days are rubbish”
Stan Collymore on Chelsea defender David Luiz
And former Liverpool hero Collymore reckons the league’s defenders are rubbish nowadays, claiming he could only dream of facing the likes of Luiz and Manchester City’s John Stones.
“Defenders these days are rubbish,” Collymore wrote in his Daily Mirror column.
“Last week I tweeted a list of the top 20 goalscorers from the 1994-95 campaign and there were some proper strikers on it.
“Alan Shearer, Andrew Cole, myself, Les Ferdinand, Robbie Fowler, Dion Dublin, Peter Beardsley, Paul Rideout, Tony Yeboah, Ian Rush, Eric Cantona…
“And I reckon that, to a man, every one of us must be watching matches these days and wetting ourselves with laughter at the thoughts of what we’d do against David Luiz and John Stones.
“I remember watching Stones for Everton against Tottenham in one of his first games and thinking how skinny he was – I’d have taken glee in having him for breakfast.”
