Ake has drawn comparisons to compatriot Ruud Gullit.
However, the Holland Under-21 international seems focussed on developing his own game and says he is not mimicking the former Chelsea star as he seeks to forge a career in west London.
“I know of Ruud Gullit but not much. I am not the new Ruud Gullit,” Ake told The Sun.
“As for the hair I didn’t do it because of him. When I was young, I had short hair and dad used to do it every morning.
“When I went abroad and he couldn’t do it, he just said make dreads.
“Every player wants to play for the team they are at but Chelsea is a big club and, at my age, it’s difficult to break through.”
In the wake of last weekend’s 3-2 defeat to Burnley, Ake will be hoping he retains his place in Howe’s starting XI when Bournemouth play host to Leicester tonight.
