Danny Higginbotham says Chelsea are placing a great importance on keeping things clean at the back.

Antonio Conte’s side defeated West Bromwich Albion 1-0 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday which was their eighth shutout of the Premier League season so far.

The Blues are sitting pretty on top of the table with 37 points from 15 matches – three clear of second-placed Arsenal – and even though they have scored 33 goals, the fact they have only conceded 11 is key according to former Southampton, Stoke City and Sunderland defender Higginbotham.

Chelsea showed once again that defending is just as important as attacking,” he wrote in his post-weekend analysis for The Sun.

“They were the only one of the top four to keep a clean sheet — that is seven shutouts in the last nine for Antonio Conte’s men.”

The West Londoners will look to extend their clean sheet record when they meet Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Wednesday night.
