German Bundesliga side Schalke have joined Premier League duo Liverpool and Chelsea in the race to sign Roma’s promising midfielder Leandro Paredes, according to a report in German publication BILD – as quoted by Read Bundesliga.
The club from the district of Gelsenkirchen, North Rhine-Westphalia are desperate to add to their midfield options, with just four recognised middlemen in their squad – the eldest of whom is Johannes Geis at 22 – and were linked recently with Manchester United midfielder and multiple Bundesliga winner Bastian Schweinsteiger, who is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.
Argentine Parades is similarly young at 22 and spent last season on loan at Italian Serie A side Empoli where his ability to pass and dictate play caught the eye of European scouts.
Now the German club hope to beat Premier League opposition to the signing, with Parades falling behind the likes of De Rossi, Nainggolan, Florenzi and Stfansitedbusrmann in the pecking order at his parent club.
A figure in the region of €20m has been touted for the player, but the Royal Blues may have to act fast if they are to steal a march over their competition.
