According to the Mirror, Chelsea are set to go head-to-head with Premier League rivals Everton for the signature of Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho.

The Blues have already recruited N’Golo Kante from Leicester this summer, but  manager Antonio Conte is reportedly keen on another defensive midfielder.

Meanwhile, Boca Juniors striker Carlos Tevez claims his former Juventus manager Conte personally called him in a bid to lure him to west London.

“The day after we lost Conte called me and asked if I wanted to come to Chelsea,” Tevez told Argentine radio station Radio La Red. “I told him no.”

And finally, former Chelsea defender Jeffrey Bruma has revealed he turned down the chance to make a return to Stamford Bridge this summer.

The 24-year-old Dutchman, who made just four league appearances for the Blues between 2009 and 2013, instead opted to leave PSV Eindhoven for Wolfsburg.

He told German newspaper SportBild: ”I had other options like Inter Milan. I could have gone back to Chelsea, who wanted me.

“Also there was a way to stay at PSV Eindhoven, who are regularly in the Champions League. But in the end I was attracted by the project at Wolfsburg.

“Wolfsburg is a club where I can play. This is very important for my further development. At Chelsea or Inter, it would have been difficult for me to make the next step.”
