Chelsea have confirmed on their official website new signing N’Golo Kante will wear the number seven shirt for the 2016/17 season following his £32m transfer from Leicester City.
The iconic number has been vacant since its previous incumbent, Ramires, left Stamford Bridge in January to play his football in the Chinese Super League after six successful years at the club.
Kante, who was one of the Premier League’s outstanding players as he helped the Foxes to an unprecedented title win, expressed his delight at signing for “one of the biggest clubs in Europe” upon confirmation of his £32m arrival last week.
“I am so happy to have signed for one of the biggest clubs in Europe. It’s a dream come true for me,” Kanté said. “The opportunity to work with Antonio Conte, a brilliant coach, and some of the best players in the world was simply too good to turn down.
“My first season in English football was very special and now I hope to go on to achieve even more during my time as a Chelsea player. I am looking forward to meeting up with my new team-mates and helping the club achieve a lot of success.”
The France international has yet to meet up with his new teammates due to his involvement in the latter stages of Euro 2016 but a number of his new colleagues have spoken of their excitement at linking up with the dynamic midfielder.
Chelsea academy product Ruben Loftus-Cheek believes the former Leicester City ace is an “asset” to the club.
“He is a great asset to us,” Loftus-Cheek told Goal.com. “His stamina and how he can get up and down the pitch for 90 minutes [is impressive]. He is a really good player so we are lucky to have him.”
The 20-year-old added: “He is a really hard worker and he is a proper team player. We could do with that in midfield and he could really help”
