And Conte, who takes over from Guus Hiddink, is keen to restore the Blues back to their previous state.

On a potential title challenge he said: “I hope we can surprise people, that there is a small flame flickering that can grow into a blazing inferno.”

New defenders and another striker are also on the agenda.

And Conte believes he can get Chelsea firing again having finished 10th last term.

He added: “I hope we can achieve something big and go back to challenging for the league title, but I know it’s more difficult than others.”
