Manchester United and former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is plotting a sensational move for Blues midfielder Cesc Fabregas, should incoming boss Antonio Conte deem him surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.
According to reports in the Mirror, Conte is on the hunt for up to four big-money transfers who play in the same position as the Spanish playmaker.
Fabregas’ former boss in West London is reported to be keeping a close eye on proceedings at Stamford Bridge, with it rumoured that he is ready to swoop should the 29-year-old fall out of favour at Chelsea.
Conte has a long-standing interest in Leicester City’s N’Golo Kante and Roma’s Radja Nainggolan. Whilst also monitoring the progress of Euro 2016 winning Joao Mario and Andre Gomes of Sporting Lisbon and Valencia respectively.
The talismanic Italian boss is keen to add some steel and energy to his side’s midfield, after their dismal performances last season. Fabregas is not known for these attributes, and may struggle to make an impact under the Italian.
The Spanish international has struggled for the past season-and-a-half at Stamford Bridge, after producing some mesmeric displays in the opening six months of his Chelsea career.
The £27m recruit from Barcelona remains a favourite of his former boss Jose Mourinho, however, who has also been linked with Fabregas’ midfield partner Nemanja Matic since his arrival at Old Trafford.
The self proclaimed Special One is set to step up his pursuit of Paul Pogba this week, as the Manchester club prepare to offer Juventus a world-record £100m for the Frenchman’s services.
However, with Conte set to arrive at Chelsea’s training ground on Wednesday, Mourinho will have one eye on developments at his former club.
